‘I am designing a plastic bubble ball which is for Christmas decoration. The point is I hope these bubbles are in varies of colors and one half looks glossy clear and another half looks somehow frosted. Could you help with this?’

The answer from Wintech is definitely sure. We have received lots of similar questions from our customers. Our goal is not only providing an experimental injection molding part, but also raising any commercial viable methods to help customers fulfill the whole conception.

Part Materials

It is a kind of thermoforming plastic resin, and moisture must be always being dried at some certain conditions before feeding in.

In addition to typical plastics such as ABS, PC, PE, Acrylic, etc., there are thousands of resins for your choices. Less limitation on properties and colors compared to other manufacturing process, just like CNC machining.

For the purpose of properties enhancement, some additives like glass fiber and UV stabilizer is commonly to be added into the material.

Define the correct material from these general considerations.

  • Mechanical strength
  • Chemical properties
  • Shrinkage rate
  • Flame retardation
  • Transparency
  • Material cost
  • Density and flexibility

Color

As long as you make a decision of what material to use, the color will be an easy thing to follow resolved. We do as what you required.

  • For you, advising a Pantone/ RAL number or providing a physical color sample.
  • For us, matching the specified color via pigments or master batch.

Mold tools

Mold tools should be designed and made upon overall analysis of part structure, to firstly ensure precise dimensions, complex features and smoothly demoulding.

Though the part is made out of plastics, the mold tool is coming out of metals on the contrary. We typically use Aluminum 7075, P20 tool steel, NAK 80 steel and H13 steel to make a complete mold. To consider which material is better to choose, it is up to a few factors such as material cost, tool life, surface finish, durability, abrasion and etc. For instance, NAK 80 steel is normally used for clear and glossy (polished) finish.

With a well-designed mold tool, moreover, we can pre-make it more attractive and functional on cavity to access an exquisite surface finish.

  • Smooth surface, make as per SPI standard B1-B3.
  • Polished surface, make as per SPI standard A1-A3.
  • Texture surface, make as per Mold Tech/VDI texture.
  • Frosted/forged surface, by sandblasting or extra additives.
  • Logo, text and numbers marking, by EDM or laser etching.

For rapid injection molds, we make the core, cavity and ejector plates, which are assembled into a Master Unit Die (MUD) base. The option is economical and productive for low and medium volume production, 50 pcs to over 100,000 pcs.

For full production injection mold tools, it is for high volume production up to 100,000+ parts, molds are made to standards.
